Burundi has abundant and underexploited water reserves thanks to Lake Tanganyika, which contains nearly one-fifth (18%) of the planet's surface freshwater.
REGIDESO provides drinking water supply to the economic (Bujumbura) and administrative (Gitega) capitals, as well as to urban centers in five regions. However, this mission is carried out in a complex context, marked by high demographic and urban pressure, and aging and undersized infrastructure.
Thanks to its experience in Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, Southeast Asia, and France, Veolia's Engineering & Consulting is proud to support REGIDESO in its digital transformation aimed at modernizing the country's drinking water management.
To support this modernization, our team is working closely with REGIDESO to develop a digital roadmap that aims to:
- ensure reliable asset management
- optimize the operation of facilities and networks
- reduce water losses and improve the energy efficiency of installations
- ensure the upskilling of technical teams
The project initially targets Bujumbura, the country's largest city with 1.3 million inhabitants, to make it a technological showcase and demonstrate the impact of the recommended solutions, before replicating and adapting the model across the entire REGIDESO service area.
This project illustrates Veolia's commitment and expertise in supporting public services to achieve operational excellence through digitalization tailored to local needs and challenges.
