Electricity grids, urban heating networks and industrial sites are facing rising fossil fuel costs and an urgent need to cut carbon emissions. Hybrid solutions make this transition easier while ensuring that generation systems remain continuous and reliable.
However, the growing share of variable renewable energy sources brings new challenges in balancing, flexibility and grid stabilisation. For these high-performing energy projects to succeed, they must also be economically viable. Securing international funding requires a firm grasp of regulatory frameworks, tariff structures and procurement processes.
Reconciling renewable energy and grid reliability
Comprehensive engineering to maximise the potential of transition assets
We design and optimise reliable, high-performing energy systems that are integrated into the grid, combining strategic expertise, advanced engineering and techno-economic analysis.
1. Strategic planning and feasibility
Analysis of the potential of each sector (solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, wastewater heat recovery, biogas and renewable gases), taking into account environmental studies, regulatory compliance, pathways to carbon neutrality (2050) and tariff frameworks.
2. Techno-economic modelling and sizing
Advanced simulations (PVSYST, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, HOMER, TERMIS) alongside CAPEX/OPEX analyses to optimise configurations and develop solutions that are both technically and financially sound.
3. Hybridisation and grid integration
Design of hybrid systems combining thermal generation (diesel/gas), renewable energy (PV, hydro, biomass) and storage (BESS), optimised through dynamic and contingency studies. Integration of the water-energy nexus (turbines, biogas, heat recovery) to strengthen the performance of isolated grids.

Our flagship references
Feasibility study for the solar and storage hybridisation of 20 thermal power plants in Algeria
Sonelgaz commissioned us to carry out a comprehensive techno-economic study in Algeria's Grand Sud region, with the aim of integrating photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS) at 20 isolated sites. The optimised design will avoid the emission of 1.8 million tonnes of CO₂ over 25 years, for an investment cost of €260 million.
Modernisation and stabilisation of São Tomé and Príncipe's electricity grid through the injection of renewable energy
We designed a stabilisation strategy for São Tomé and Príncipe's national electricity grid, incorporating 45 MWp of solar power and 12.5 MW/3 h of battery storage. In-depth dynamic studies of grid stability and SCADA systems have improved the continuity of the power supply and optimised the performance of the infrastructure.
Harnessing renewable energy in water infrastructure in The Gambia
The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) commissioned us to carry out a detailed energy audit of its water supply and treatment processes. Our baseline assessments identified opportunities to integrate solar photovoltaic energy and to recover value from sludge-derived biogas. These measures will help reduce power supply interruptions and optimise energy consumption.
